Brand new skill tree system

Dear Redmoon community, We'd like to share some more information on what we're planning to implement in Redmoon2! As the skill system in Redmoon1 was plain and simple, we want to create a much more varied skill system in Redmoon2. This is something we've put a lot of thought into and had to alter some skills accordingly.

The skill tree system contains:

  • A new and unique skill tree UI for each character class
  • Skill point system
  • Unlock point system
  • Skill upgrades
  • New skills and skill sounds

Skill tree UI:

  • New F5 UI
  • Signature skill icons
  • Passive skill icons
  • Decent looking skill tree effect
  • Unlock/Skill point counter

Skill point system; skill experience can be obtained through:

  • Killing field monsters and bosses
  • Quests
  • Events(Including map based events)
  • Items
For example you need 4000 skill experience points to get 1 skill point. If a monster gives you 250 skill experience, you will need to kill 16 of these monsters to gain 1 skill point. If a quest rewards you with 20.000 skill experience, you will gain 5 skill points. The experience obtained will increase throughout the game.

Unlock points

Example: You've created a Kitara and start your first main quest. Finishing this quest will grant you 1 unlock point, which can be used to unlock your first signature skill "Ghostwill". You continue doing your thing and reach level 50. The quest you receive at that level will grant you with another unlock point, which you can use to unlock your second signature skill "Hasten". And so forth.

However, a huge change comes with this system. You no longer have to hunt negative or positive honored monsters. You can choose what skill you want to unlock, either "blue" or "red". What this does is giving you the option to freely choose what skills you want to unlock, only red, only blue or why not both?! Just keep in mind you will only get so many unlock points.

For example at level 400, you don't like the mana consumption on God of Death, but do like the stamina boost you get from Goddess of Mercy. You now have the option to skill up to Goddess of Mercy on the blue side and use the remaining unlock point to unlock Mistress Vampire on the red side. And with this, your name color will change to slightly purple, while only red skills will make your name red, etc.

In short you can have your level 500 red and level 500 blue skills at level 1000. Use the points whichever way you seem fit to your playstyle. A level 1000 philar with Wraith and Starlight? Why not?! A lunarena with Red Halo and Starlight shower, a Jarexx with Roar and Fast Spear, in Redmoon2 it will all be possible. Though, we will change skills to prevent some ridiculous overpowered combinations that might ruin the gameplay.

(Also, there will be passive skills which you can unlock with skill points.)

Skill upgrades

To add more dept to the skill tree, you will be able to upgrade skills with your hard earned skill points. The amount of upgrades and the effects may vary each skill. For example: Philar's Psychic Punch can be upgraded by increasing the cast range, the damage, buff duration, decreasing the mp consumption and adding splash damage on impact. However, reaching the max upgrade on a skill will be extremely challenging!

New skills and skill sounds

As we're planning to alter quite a few skills(mainly buff skills), we've also searched for some new, fitting sounds. In Redmoon1 some buff skills are fairly useless or don't even function at all. We've already come up with tons of alterations(within limits), which would create a better character class balance and more variety to the gameplay. For example:

  • Destino's "Chaos" skill will be changed into a de-buff, making the oponent take more damage for a set period of time(duration and effect can be upgraded).
  • Sadad's War Cry skill will be changed into a party buff, increasing your damage reduction significantly for a short period of time(with a cooldown)

As always, feel free to ask questions related to this topic in the comments below!
